Aug. 14            1860 census has listed for Washington township, Alameda Co.

                                       Vallejo Mills Post Office

Wm. Woolsey   26, farmer, $2,000.00, born in Ill.

Emily Woolsey  26, born in Mo.

                                       William              2,   born in Cal.

                                       Lucy               3/12  born in Cal.

(Notice that Emily’s first two sons are now going by the name                                        of Woolsey. This may be a mistake on the part of the census                                        takers or maybe the divorce from Brizzee was not amicable, or                                        Emily ran off with Woolsey and there was no divorce).

1860-64            The following story is told to Reva Andreason, a descendent from this

marriage: “Woolsey was apparently accused of horse thievery and a

posse came to the house looking for him. Emily hid her husband and

went to the door and told them he was not there. Then she dressed him                           up in her closes and he left the house disguised as a woman. That was                           he last they ever saw or heard of him—wither he made his escape and                           went into permanent hiding or met his demise via the lynching party, as                           that was the penalty in those days for horse thievery.”

There is a William A. Woolsey b. 1833 (right age) in Ill. Listed in the

Utah Cemetery Inventory. d 8 Dec 1893 in SLC. Could this have been

Emily’s husband who left (deserted) her and fled to Utah? There is a

member of the Mormon Battalion, Thomas Woolsey, b. 3 Nov 1805,                           they are brother’s.

1865      Sept 10             Emily marries David Monroe Tyrrell at Donner Lake. They                                  were both living in Gold Hill, Nevada (marriage records of                                    Virginia city 1875)

1870      July 5                 Census record of Gold Hill, Storey, Nevada Gold Hill Post                                    Office indicates the following:

Tyrrell, D. M., 41, Miner, born in Scotland

$9,000.00 real estate (more than all the rest)

Tyrrell, Emily A., 33, KH. (keeping house) born in Mo.

Woolsey, Charles, 18, born in Cal.

Woolsey, Henry, 15, born in Cal.

                                       Woolsey, W. R., 12, born in Cal.

Woolsey, Lucy, 10, born in Cal.

So the Brizzee boys were still going by the Woolsey name on

                                       purpose it seems to me.
