My Dear Grand Daughter
May, I got your good letter last mail. I was glad to hear from you. I had given up ever hearing from you anymore. I am glad you are as well as can be, for the spring always brings lots of sickness. I feel sorry for your husbands mother and pray she may get well and be a comfort to her family for a long time to come. As for myself I am as well as could be expected. Old folks are never well and as Etta says, “Seventy years is the allotted age for people to live these days,” and I guess it is, but I am here just the same. I am sorry they ever live and I think they will be obliged to go, for they can’t ever live here. I think you and myself have our own troubles and no one to tell them to. I hate all you say your mother has done and I am at all surprised she would do almost anything to bad. You all didn’t have your deeds on record then she could not of taken them back, but it will never do him any good. I never hear from them only through the Fletchers sometimes. I wonder if she went and put up a headstone to dear Charley’s grave, your own papa. I think that would have been more to her credit and it would of done more good than the Temple work. If she had of paid the debt on his death of one hundred dollars, and the interment she would of done something that would have been a credit to him and she would have had keep sake that no on need to be asked if your father’s sister gave it to him. The watch and chain is worth three hundred dollars, but the way things goes I will never be able to redeem it. There is other debts to be paid as well as that one, but if I can I will do it. Cattle are not worth very much now. Mine look well so does the place. I have no horses at all. Henry is riding to gather the cattle now. There’s nothing new here. It’s dull and lonely. I wish I could sell and get out of here but it looks dark for me. Etta and Mrs. Yules and family are well, also all of Mrs. Fletchers family. This healthy place like it all in all. Viola is not married yet but will be this fall so she says. Kate Yules is married about 4 months ago shows it now. Well May I do hope this will find you, the children and husband well. Write me oftener with best time for you and all. Ever your Grandmother Tyrell |
