George ‘Joris’ Woolsey is the son of George Woolsey (abt 1584-1629) “tobacconist”

[merchant]  [of Kirsted-cum-Langhale, and Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, and Rotterdam, Holland], and Frances Robberts [of England and Holland]. This family is not Dutch, but are English merchants who moved to Holland, evidently for business reasons.

Each of these Woolseys has an interesting history and some (but not all) can be found on Carolyn Woolsey Wilkerson’s Woolsey Website:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~woolsey/index.html

It will take some exploring to get around this site, but will be well worth the effort. Use the index search engines. As this is a work in progress, not all the above families will be extensively treated on this site, which is why www thought that the above outline of the family was necessary.

Enjoy!

Sincerely, Wilford W. Whitaker
